Practice questions
Lessons 1–2 and 6 are examinable OCR GCSE content (SELECT / FROM / WHERE). Lessons 3–5 are marked Extension Exercises — useful real-world SQL skills that go beyond what OCR J277 requires.

Grade 8/9 questions
Forty questions aimed at the top grades, using only the SQL that
OCR J277 examines — SELECT, FROM, WHERE and the comparison and Boolean operators
(= < > <=
>= <> AND, OR, NOT). There is no harder SQL
inside the specification, so the difficulty is in the logic and in working out
what the question is actually asking. All forty carry exam marks.
Grade 8 covers the operators the six lessons leave out. Grade 9 adds brackets, precedence, negating a whole condition, and questions you have to decode before you can write any SQL.

Exam-style questions
Every SQL question in J277 Paper 2 across June 2022, 2024 and 2025 gives you a statement that is already written and wrong, and asks you to correct it. None of them asks you to write SQL from scratch. These twenty are that format.
The faulty statement is already in the box — edit it until it does what the question asks, then press Check answer. Reset statement puts the original back if you need it. These questions use the three databases the papers use, not the games database — the panel on the left switches to match.
Watch for the mistakes the examiners actually plant: IF where
WHERE belongs, SELECT ALL or fields joined with
AND instead of a comma, a misspelt table name, a text value with no
quotes, and a comparison pointing the wrong way.

SQL key commands and words
Everything you need up to grade 9, with the correct syntax and a worked example you can run against the games database. Entries badged OCR are the complete set J277 examines — if you know those, you have the whole specification. Entries badged Extension are taught in Lessons 3–5 and are useful SQL, but they carry no exam marks.

Free play
Write any SELECT freely. What happens to INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE depends on the mode your teacher has set — see the banner above. While writes are being checked, yours is held until your teacher approves it; approved changes really are saved.

Writes waiting for approval
While the mode above is Moderated, a pupil's INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE is not run — it is previewed and held here. Approving runs it for real and saves it; approval covers that one statement only.

Certificates awarded
A certificate is recorded automatically the moment a pupil answers the last question in a section — they do not have to download it for it to count. New ones are marked and counted on the Admin tab until you mark them as seen.

Each pupil logs in with their own username, so the activity table below shows who ran what. Passwords are shown once when created or reset and are not recoverable afterwards — reset one if a pupil loses it.
